Móskarðshnúkar

Móskarðshnúkar is a rhyolite mountain peak on the Esja massif with a 360-degree view!

Móskarðshnúkar is nowhere near as visited as Þverfellshorn, which is the well-known western peak of the mountain massif. Probably because it is a bit more remote. The mountain massif lies north of Reykjavik and can be seen from the city. It rises beautifully and majestically in both summer and winter.

The route to Móskarðshnúkar requires a bit more effort, as the hike climbs more steeply up the mountain. But it is truly worth it. The reward is a stunning 360-degree view. The summit is around 804 meters above sea level, and the hike up and down is about 7 km with 660 meters of elevation gain. Check the weather forecast and choose a good day. Remember sturdy hiking boots or shoes, and preferably hiking poles.
